O cancelamento da série The OA pela Netflix pegou todos os fãs de surpresa, pois a produção era muito querida pelo público e sua segunda temporada teve uma boa aceitação por parte do mesmo.
Logo os fãs tomaram as redes sociais se manifestando contra o cancelamento, alguns reclamando que duas temporadas é pouco tempo para desenvolver a trama, e por ter acabado de um jeito que possivelmente renderia nova história.
Pessoas estão dizendo, no Twitter, que a opção de cancelar a série pela Netflix teria sido marketing e que a plataforma de streaming teria usado uma metalinguagem no último episódio da segunda temporada. Para chegar a essa conclusão os fãs estão indicando posts realizados pelo elenco nas redes sociais, e que nelas teria uma mensagem secreta escondida.
O público cativo de THE OA tomou as redes sociais e até mesmo subiram hashtags (#SaveTheOA e #TheOAisreal) para forçar a Netflix a mudar de ideia e produzir a terceira temporada, alguns até realizando a coreografia que os personagens fazem na série.
